Fr Andrew’s Letter to the Pope

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI

15 February 2013

Most Holy Father,

On behalf of the Catholic members of staff and students of the University of Nottingham Catholic Chaplaincy, I have the honour to assure Your Holiness of our prayers and affection for you as you prepare to step down from the Petrine ministry.

Many of us knew of Your Holiness thanks to your long and meritorious years of service as a priest, bishop and cardinal, and your writings have inspired many in their journey of faith. However, it is during your years as Supreme Pastor of the Universal Church that you have won a lifelong place in our hearts; in your exposition of the Gospel and all that you have done, you have given us a clear example of faithful service to Christ and taught us to seek holiness of life in communion with the Church.

We all remember with great joy Your Holiness’ Apostolic Visit to our country in 2010, when some of us were honoured by being able to see, meet and hear you at Westminster Cathedral and Hyde Park.

Most Holy Father, I ask you to remember the University of Nottingham Catholic Chaplaincy in your prayers as I assure you that you will for ever remain in ours, and I humbly ask that you bestow upon us your Apostolic Blessing.

I have the honour to remain, Your Holiness,

Yours devotedly in Christ,

Rev Andrew Cole

Catholic Chaplain to the University of Nottingham
